How do I make an Islamic will in Scarborough?
The same way as anywhere in Ontario — and that is the point worth understanding. There is no Scarborough will law. Wills are provincial, so the rules that decide whether your will is valid are Ontario’s. What is genuinely local is everything around the will: which mosques here can perform a janazah, where they bury, and what it costs.

- Meet Ontario’s formalities. This is the part that decides whether the document works at all — valid (the Ontario formalities in full).
- Check your beneficiary designations. An RRSP, a TFSA or a life policy with a named beneficiary may pass outside the estate under Canadian law — whether it also sits outside the tarikah is disputed among contemporary scholars, so do not assume it escapes the shares.
- Have it drafted. The Registry does not draft wills. Treadstone Law, an independent Ontario firm, handles the drafting side.
- Record where it is kept — free, and it is what lets your executor find it.
Municipalities have no jurisdiction over wills or estates. Under s. 92(13) of the Constitution Act, 1867 that is provincial. Any page promising a “Scarborough Islamic will” is selling you a Ontario will.

Agincourt Muslim Association (Namira Musallah)
Agincourt Muslim Association operates the Namira Musallah in a basement space on Sheppard Avenue in Scarborough. Its own site says it "has been serving the community for over two decades" without giving an exact founding year; CRA records it as a registered charity effective 2014. It runs two Friday jumu'ah services, an evening madrasah and hifz program, a tafsir program, and a youth halaqa.

Baitul Aman Masjid (Danforth Community Center)
Baitul Aman Masjid (operating as Danforth Community Center) was established in August 2008 in a former restaurant space on Danforth Avenue, on the border of East Toronto and Scarborough, and became a registered charity effective January 2009. Serving a largely Bangladeshi-origin 'Little Bengal' neighbourhood, it runs two Friday jumu'ah services (a Bengali khutbah and an English khutbah) and offers religious instruction, dawah, and support services for immigrants, refugees, and the unemployed.

Central Mosque Scarborough (Jaame Masjid)
Central Mosque Scarborough (Jaame Masjid) is a registered charity effective December 2015. Its own site advertises its Summer Camp program as running "Since 1995," suggesting community activity predates the formal charity registration by two decades. The mosque runs three Friday jumu'ah services with both English and Arabic khutbahs, and provides nikah and funeral services, the latter in partnership with Masjid Al Aqsa.

Gibraltar Leadership Academy
The academy's own history page states: 'Gibraltar Leadership Academy, a registered non-profit organization, was founded in 2017 by a dedicated group of Muslim educators to serve the diverse Muslim community in the Greater Toronto Area.' Its stated vision is to 'instil Islamic character in our students, ensuring their development as socially responsible citizens of Canada', and its mission that 'Students will revive their knowledge and practice of Islam through exploration of their faith, acts of worship, and interactions with each other. The focus will be to teach students to live the tradition of Islam in a modern day context.' It has grown to three campuses - Scarborough (the flagship), Clarington and Durham/Ajax - all registered with the Ontario Ministry of Education. It has NO CRA charity registration: a search of the Charities Listings for 'Gibraltar' returns zero results, and the academy describes itself only as a registered non-profit, which in Canada is not the same thing.

Islamic Foundation of Toronto
The Islamic Foundation of Toronto's own history page states it was 'Established in 1969' and grew 'From a small building on Rhodes Avenue' into 'one of the oldest Muslim organizations in Canada'. The same page records that 'In 1992, a majestic masjid of white stone, accompanied by a copper-clad dome and 125 feet tall minaret was built' — the Nugget Avenue site in Scarborough it occupies today. It describes the present 53,000 sq ft building as housing 'spacious prayer halls for brothers and sisters, a gymnasium ... a library ... and a mortuary to perform funeral rites for the deceased'. CRA's Charities Listing records the charity ISLAMIC FOUNDATION OF TORONTO (BN 134667039RR0001) as Registered with an effective date of status of 1992-11-21, 23 years after the congregation's own claimed founding year and coinciding with the opening of the Nugget Avenue mosque.

The Islamic Institute of Toronto (IIT) describes itself as "a non-profit, federally registered, educational institute" and is a CRA-registered charity effective 2000. Based in Scarborough, it combines mosque functions (five daily prayers, Jumu'ah offered in-person and live online) with an educational academy, sports and scouting programs, a summer camp, and fatwa sessions.

Masjid Al-Jannah (Sri Lanka Islamic Foundation of Ontario)
The masjid's about page says it was 'Established by SLIFO to address the urgent need for prayer space in the growing GTA' and describes itself as 'a vibrant centre for worship and education … dedicated to uplifting the Islamic quality of life and promoting the values of faith within Toronto's diverse, multicultural society'. It adds that 'As a Hilal Committee member, we offer vital religious guidance, Nikah services, and community support for the SLIFO congregation.' The organisation publishes no founding year of its own anywhere on its site, so the year recorded here is the CRA registration date: Sri Lanka Islamic Foundation of Ontario, BN 836382226RR0001, at 2201 Ellesmere Road Scarborough — the masjid's own address — is Registered with an effective date of status of 2016-01-01.

North American Muslim Foundation (NAMF), which operates Masjid Qurtubah in Scarborough, says on its own site it was "Established 1975" and is a long-standing CRA-registered charity effective 1980 — one of the oldest charity registrations among Scarborough mosques in this batch.
Muslim Circle of Canada (MCC) - Centre Scarborough Masjid
Muslim Circle of Canada (MCC) describes itself as "a socio-cultural, religious, educational, and not-for-profit organization" and states its belief is "rooted in the Islamic creeds of Allah, the only God, and Muhammad (PBUH) as the final messenger of Allah" — a general statement of core Islamic belief rather than a specific school affiliation. It runs the Centre Scarborough Masjid, offering daily and Friday prayers, Quran classes, and youth programs.

SMA's own history page records that 'By the late 1970s a large number of Muslims had migrated and settled in the east part of Toronto which is known as Scarborough', that in the early 1980s 'there was no permanent Masjid facility in Scarborough', and that 'the Muslims in Scarborough formed a non-profit organization in 1981 with the sole purpose of establishing a permanent Masjid and Madrasah'. The association first rented a hall; 'in 1992, SMA purchased land and a building at a cost of $3 million Canadian dollars, almost all paid for, by donations from the local Muslim community', renovating it into the present masjid and madrasah. CRA registered SCARBOROUGH MUSLIM ASSOCIATION (889756441RR0001) effective 1985-01-01 at 2665 Lawrence Ave E - the masjid's own address - four years after the association formed and seven before it bought the building. The association states that over 100,000 Muslims now live in Scarborough.
