Janazah & burial services

One of the oldest and largest Islamic centres in Canada (est. 1969). Well-equipped on-site mortuary with cold storage and ghusl performed by same-gender volunteer teams for both men and women — a primary janazah/funeral service provider for the GTA. Also runs a full-time day Hifz program (Mon-Fri) in addition to Sunday school.

About Islamic Foundation of Toronto

The Islamic Foundation of Toronto's own history page states it was 'Established in 1969' and grew 'From a small building on Rhodes Avenue' into 'one of the oldest Muslim organizations in Canada'. The same page records that 'In 1992, a majestic masjid of white stone, accompanied by a copper-clad dome and 125 feet tall minaret was built' — the Nugget Avenue site in Scarborough it occupies today. It describes the present 53,000 sq ft building as housing 'spacious prayer halls for brothers and sisters, a gymnasium ... a library ... and a mortuary to perform funeral rites for the deceased'. CRA's Charities Listing records the charity ISLAMIC FOUNDATION OF TORONTO (BN 134667039RR0001) as Registered with an effective date of status of 1992-11-21, 23 years after the congregation's own claimed founding year and coinciding with the opening of the Nugget Avenue mosque.
