How this directory works

A record of 459 mosques, Islamic schools and Muslim cemeteries across 60 Canadian cities. It exists because the information a family needs in the first hours after a death — which mosque has a mortuary, who answers at night, which cemetery they bury at, what it costs — is scattered one organisation at a time, and nobody had put it in one place.

How this directory is verified

Three marks, used consistently on every listing:

ConfirmedWe found it stated by the organisation itself, or by a regulator.

Not confirmedWe could not establish it. We publish the gap rather than guess — and tell you to call and ask.

Confirmed absentThe organisation states it does not provide this.

No phone number here was written from memory. Every listing carries its sources, and unverified listings say so at the top.

What this directory will not do

It will not tell you a cemetery has a Muslim section because it seems likely, or invent a janazah number because one probably exists. On a page a grieving family may read at three in the morning, a wrong number is worse than an empty field. Where a mosque names a cemetery on its own funeral page, we record that as the mosque’s statement — not the cemetery’s.
