How do I make an Islamic will in North York?
The same way as anywhere in Ontario — and that is the point worth understanding. There is no North York will law. Wills are provincial, so the rules that decide whether your will is valid are Ontario’s. What is genuinely local is everything around the will: which mosques here can perform a janazah, where they bury, and what it costs.
- Work out the shares. The faraid calculator gives every heir’s fraction under the school you follow, with a written report you can hand to a drafter.
- Meet Ontario’s formalities. This is the part that decides whether the document works at all — valid (the Ontario formalities in full).
- Check your beneficiary designations. An RRSP, a TFSA or a life policy with a named beneficiary may pass outside the estate under Canadian law — whether it also sits outside the tarikah is disputed among contemporary scholars, so do not assume it escapes the shares.
- Have it drafted. The Registry does not draft wills. Treadstone Law, an independent Ontario firm, handles the drafting side.
- Record where it is kept — free, and it is what lets your executor find it.
Why there is no North York will law
Municipalities have no jurisdiction over wills or estates. Under s. 92(13) of the Constitution Act, 1867 that is provincial. Any page promising a “North York Islamic will” is selling you a Ontario will.

Listed on the Jaffari Funeral Services page of the Islamic Shia Ithna-Asheri Jamaat (ISIJ) of Toronto as one of the four cemeteries families may choose for burial, given there as 'North York Cemetery (101 Senlac Rd)'. Address is exactly as published by ISIJ; no postal code, phone, website, operator or Muslim-section detail could be confirmed in this research pass, and this cemetery is NOT part of the Mount Pleasant Group (whose North York property is York Cemetery on Beecroft Rd). Needs a human check before any contact details are published. The same ISIJ page also names 'Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens', 'Al Hussain Foundation Cemetery' and 'Meadowvale Cemetery (Brampton)'; Al Hussain Foundation Cemetery could not be located at all and has deliberately been left out of this dataset rather than guessed at.

Abu Huraira Center's own site states "Since 2001, Abu Huraira Center has proudly served as a pillar of faith, guidance, and unity for our community," a founding claim two years ahead of its CRA charity registration, effective September 2003.
Abu Ubaydah Islamic Centre (ZANCANA)
Abu Ubaydah Islamic Centre (legally registered as Zancana Community Center, a CRA-registered charity effective 2009) runs a member-funded Janazah Support System for its North York community rather than a walk-in fee-for-service funeral model.

Darul Khair Islamic Centre
Darul Khair Islamic Center serves Flemingdon Park, which it describes as the second largest Muslim community in Toronto. Before 2001 residents had to travel four to five kilometres to pray in congregation at Darus Salam, which was not practical for the young or the old without transport, so the community decided to establish a masjid within walking distance. The facility came into existence in March 2001, at first in a rented hall; an Islamic school for children followed soon after, and the administration later rented an adjoining apartment and merged it in to extend the premises. It can accommodate 250 to 300 people praying at a time, and the facility is still rented. DarulKhair Islamic Centre was granted charitable registration by the CRA effective 1 January 2007.

Ismaili Centre, Toronto (Jamatkhana)
The Ismaili Centre, Toronto opened on 12 September 2014, inaugurated by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan, as part of a roughly $300 million development. It was designed by Charles Correa Associates with Moriyama & Teshima Architects, and its prayer hall sits beneath a distinctive dome of two layers of high-performance glass, fritted to deflect solar heat with a clear eastern section oriented toward Mecca. The centre shares a 6.8-hectare site with the Aga Khan Museum, the two buildings set in a landscaped park designed by Vladimir Djurovic. The building also houses His Highness Prince Aga Khan Shia Imami Ismaili Council for Canada, whose published address and telephone number are those of 49 Wynford Drive.
Nile Academy
The school's own about page states that 'Nile Academy was established in 2005 with the goal of providing better education and a brighter future for children', with a mission 'to enable its students to reach the highest levels of achievement'. It runs Kindergarten through Grade 12 on a single North York campus plus night and summer school, follows the Ontario curriculum, and accepts international boarding students. Although it is widely listed as an Islamic school, its own about page makes no statement of religious identity and says instead that it 'welcomes families of all beliefs and cultural backgrounds'. No CRA charity registration could be matched: a Charities Listings search for 'NILE' returns twelve organisations, none of them this school.

North York Cemetery
The cemetery at 101 Senlac Road in North York is York Cemetery, operated by the Mount Pleasant Group of Cemeteries, a non-profit statutory public trust. It was established in 1948 and its grounds include the Michael Shepard House, a heritage building dating from the early 1850s and recognised by the North York Historical Board. The cemetery states a commitment to serving Toronto's multicultural communities with multilingual staff, and a one-storey columbarium was approved for the site by Toronto City Council in 2021 under the Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act.

North York Islamic Community Center (NYICC)
The North York Islamic Community Center describes itself as a house of worship and education in the Jane and Finch area of North York, serving as a hub for Muslims in the area with religious, educational and community services. NYMA describes itself as 'a welcoming Islamic organization serving the North York community through daily prayers, Jumu'ah services, Islamic education, outreach, and community support. For over 20 years, NYMA has worked to promote authentic Islamic values rooted in the Qur'an and Sunnah', and its homepage says it has been 'Serving North York with daily prayers, Jummah, and Islamic education for 20 years'. It publishes no founding year. It publishes its own registration in its site footer - 'Registered Charity Number: 819984790RR0001' - and CRA confirms North York Muslim Association, registered effective 2016-11-07, at C37 - 5150 Yonge St, North York M2N6L8. The association currently operates from a concourse-level unit in a commercial tower and is fundraising to complete a permanent masjid through its NYMA Expansion Project.
