A cemetery on the grounds of Masjid Al-Hussain on Kennedy Road in north Markham, owned and operated by the Al-Hussain Foundation - "a non-profit organization established under Canadian Federal Law in 1989 and ... managed by a Board of Trustees" (its own About page). Its own site names the burial ground "Jan'att Wadi Salam Cemetery" on the home page and "Janatt Wadi Al-Salaam Cemetery" on the About page; its published price list heads the document "Al Hussain Foundation / Jannat-Wadi-elSalam Cemetary, 10992 Kennedy Road, Markham, Ontario L0H 1G0 - Tel: 416-898-6967". The mosque and cemetery sit on a 5-acre parcel. It is a licensed Ontario cemetery: the price list carries the Care & Maintenance Fund disclosure required under the Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act, 2002 and O. Reg. 30/11, with 40% of the price of interment rights set aside in perpetuity. The Foundation separately holds a BAO transfer service operator licence, Class 2 Restricted, number TSR-1541. PRICES (effective 1 January 2026, before HST unless stated): interment rights $1,000; opening and closing of the grave $1,500; facilities $2,500; transportation within the GTA $900; documentation $300; casket (maple plywood) $600; shrouding $150; sodding $650; administration $1,100; granite marker 24x18 black $2,600; total for a burial $11,500; cold storage $250/night. Burial contacts: Ajaz Sadiq 416-898-6967 and lead volunteer Hussein Somji 416-871-5568. Named as a cemetery they bury at on the funeral pages of two Shia centres already in this directory: the Islamic Shia Ithna-Asheri Jamaat of Toronto (Jaffari Community Centre, Thornhill) and Masumeen Islamic Centre (Brampton). NOT STATED anywhere consulted, and therefore left null: whether burial is restricted to Muslims (the grounds are owned by an Islamic foundation and adjoin its masjid, but no source says so in terms), whether it is a section inside a wider cemetery (it is not - it is a standalone ground, but no source states this either), the cemetery's acreage as distinct from the 5-acre whole site, and whether graves face qiblah. plots_available is recorded true on the strength of a current 2026 price list actively selling interment rights.

Mosques that bury here

These organisations name this cemetery on their own funeral pages. That is confirmation from the masjid, not from the cemetery.

Arranging a burial here

  1. Contact the masjid handling the janazah first — most cemeteries deal with the funeral provider rather than the family directly.
  2. Ask what the plot costs and, separately, what opening and closing the grave costs. They are almost always billed apart, and the second surprises people.
  3. Ask whether the section faces qiblah and what markers are permitted.
  4. See what a Muslim burial costs across Canada before you commit — plot prices vary more than fourfold between cities.

What we haven’t confirmed

We could not establish: whether the grounds are entirely Muslim, whether there is a designated Muslim section, size. Those are published as gaps rather than filled with a plausible guess. If you know the answer — especially if you are from this organisation — tell us and we will verify and update the listing.

Planning ahead, rather than in a crisis?

The two things a funeral coordinator asks a family for are the burial wishes and the will. Recording where your will is kept and working out the inheritance shares now spares your family both questions at the worst possible moment.
