The short version
The free inheritance calculator on this site runs in your browser and keeps nothing in our database; if you ask for your report by email, the report and your email address are sent to us through a form-delivery service so that we can send it. The free Islamic will generator is different: to create and register your will, we collect and store your answers, the will itself, and your email address. This page explains what we collect, why, where it is kept, and how to ask us to delete it.
The inheritance calculator
The free inheritance calculator works out the shares in your web browser, and nothing you enter is kept in our database. If you ask for your report by email, the report (the family and estate figures you entered) and your email address are sent to us through Web3Forms, a form-delivery service, and arrive as an email in our inbox.
The free Islamic will generator
When you use the free Islamic will generator, we collect the answers you provide (about your family, executors, guardians, assets and wishes), the will and inheritance report generated from those answers, and the email address you give us. We use this information to generate your will and inheritance report, let you download them, and register your will, free, in the Islamic Will Registry so it can be found when it is needed. Once email delivery is switched on, we will also use your email address to send you a copy.
While you fill it in
Until you submit, your answers are kept only in the web browser on the device you are using, so that you can stop and finish later. They are not sent to us. They are removed from the browser when your will is submitted successfully or when you choose Delete my answers. If you come back more than 30 days after you last saved, they are deleted instead of reopened. Anyone who uses the same browser could open them, so on a shared or public computer, delete your answers when you finish.
Where it is stored
Your answers and the generated will are stored in encrypted form in our database, on our hosting provider's servers.
Who can read it
Islamic Will Registry administrators, for the purposes above.
How long we keep it
We keep your information until you ask us to delete it.
When email delivery is switched on, we send your will to the email address you provide using Amazon Simple Email Service (Amazon SES), an Amazon Web Services email service, which processes the message to deliver it and may keep a copy for a period under its own terms. A copy of the same email is also sent to the Islamic Will Registry's own inbox, so that your will can be registered.
Download links
The link to download your will as a PDF works for 30 days. After that it stops working; email us if you need a new copy.
We do not sell your information
We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
Fonts
Most pages on this site load their fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser sends Google your IP address and basic browser details when it fetches them. The will form itself uses fonts stored on our own server and makes no requests to Google.
Your rights, and how to reach us
You can ask to see, correct, or delete the information we hold about you at any time by emailing hello@islamicwillregistry.com. We handle personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
