How it works

1. Answer questions

   Tell us about your family, executors, guardians, assets and funeral wishes, at your own pace. You can save your progress and come back later.

2. Get your will and report

   Receive a complete will and a full inheritance report showing every heir's share, drafted to the school of Islamic law you follow and the signing rules of your province or territory.

3. Sign with two witnesses

   Sign your will in the presence of two witnesses who meet your province's rules, following the signing guide included with it.

4. Register free

   Once it's signed, register your will free in the Islamic Will Registry so your family can find it when it matters.

What this is — and is not

This is a self-help legal document, in the same style as other online will-writing tools. You complete it yourself, and it becomes valid only once you sign it correctly, in front of two witnesses who meet your province's rules. No one at the Islamic Will Registry, Treadstone Law, or Rehmat Community drafts, reviews, or signs off on your individual will.

Frequently asked questions

Is the will generator really free?

Yes. There is no fee to use the will generator, download your will, or register it in the Islamic Will Registry. It is free because it is sponsored by Treadstone Law and Rehmat Community.

Is my will legally valid as soon as I generate it?

No. Your will becomes legally valid only once you sign it correctly, in front of two witnesses who meet the rules of your province or territory. The signing guide included with your will explains how.

Does a lawyer review my will?

No. This is a self-help document that you complete and sign yourself -- no one reviews or signs off on individual wills. We recommend having a lawyer review your will for your own circumstances, and if you live in Quebec, your will must be reviewed by a Quebec-licensed lawyer or notary before you sign it.

Which provinces and territories are covered?

All 13: every Canadian province and territory, each with its own will and signing guide.

Which school of Islamic law does it use?

You choose the school you follow -- Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i, or Hanbali -- and the division of your estate in your will and report follows that school.

What happens to the information I enter?

Your answers and the will you generate are stored encrypted in our database so that we can register your will and give you your documents. The inheritance calculator, a separate tool, keeps nothing in our database. See our privacy page for details.
