How do I make an Islamic will in London?
The same way as anywhere in Ontario — and that is the point worth understanding. There is no London will law. Wills are provincial, so the rules that decide whether your will is valid are Ontario’s. What is genuinely local is everything around the will: which mosques here can perform a janazah, where they bury, and what it costs.
- Work out the shares. The faraid calculator gives every heir’s fraction under the school you follow, with a written report you can hand to a drafter.
- Meet Ontario’s formalities. This is the part that decides whether the document works at all — valid (the Ontario formalities in full).
- Check your beneficiary designations. An RRSP, a TFSA or a life policy with a named beneficiary may pass outside the estate under Canadian law — whether it also sits outside the tarikah is disputed among contemporary scholars, so do not assume it escapes the shares.
- Have it drafted. The Registry does not draft wills. Treadstone Law, an independent Ontario firm, handles the drafting side.
- Record where it is kept — free, and it is what lets your executor find it.
Municipalities have no jurisdiction over wills or estates. Under s. 92(13) of the Constitution Act, 1867 that is provincial. Any page promising a “London Islamic will” is selling you a Ontario will.
The Ontario rules that decide whether it works
| Governing statute | Succession Law Reform Act |
| Court | Superior Court of Justice |
| Handwritten (holograph) wills | Valid |
| Probate cost | Estate Administration Tax: nil on the first $50,000, then about $15 per $1,000 of value above that (roughly 1.5%). A Small Estate Certificate is available for estates of $150,000 or less. |
| Spouse’s share if there is no will | $350,000 for deaths on or after 1 March 2021 ($200,000 before that date). |
| Challenges to the will | Dependant support claims under Part V of the Succession Law Reform Act. Ontario does not have a BC-style wills variation regime for independent adult children. |
Deeper: making a valid will · dying without one · probate · challenges.
Mosques in London with janazah services
An Islamic will usually records burial wishes — ghusl, kafan, burial without delay. A janazah needs physical facilities: a mortuary, cold storage, a washing room. Not every mosque has them.
These are the 2 London mosques with a confirmed service, from each organisation’s own published information.
London Muslim Mosque
The other 4 London mosques we list have not published a funeral service. A blank is not a no — it means we could not confirm it.
Where London’s mosques bury
London’s mosques name 2 burial grounds on their own funeral pages. That is confirmation from the masjid, not from the cemetery.
Burial grounds in London
Forest Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery (Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens). Commercial cemetery and funeral home on Dundas Street East in London, operated by Arbor Memorial; address, postal code and phone are from the structured data on Arbor's own branch page. It is one of only two cemeteries the London Muslim Mosque publishes driving directions to on its Funeral Transfer Service page - the other being the Islamic Cemetery of London (6100 White Oak Rd), which the mosque notes is "managed by the Islamic Centre of Southwest Ontario" and which is already in this directory. The mosque's page gives the address here as "Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 2001 Dundas St, London, ON N5V 1P6", 18 minutes / 10.3 km from the mosque. A general cemetery serving all faiths, so all_muslim is false. NOT CONFIRMED and left null: whether Forest Lawn has a designated Muslim section - the mosque's page says only that it transports there, and Arbor's own site is JavaScript-only and says nothing about faith sections. The mosque itself is a BAO-licensed transfer service (TSO Class 2 Restricted, licence TS-1501) and notes that "cemetery charges such as plots and opening and closing fees are charged separately and are paid directly to the Cemetery by the family at time of need." Distinct from Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Burnaby, BC, which is a different cemetery with a similar name.
Islamic Cemetery of London — an entirely Muslim cemetery, about 57 acres. A fully dedicated Islamic burial ground - not a section inside a larger cemetery - about five minutes south of London. Owned and operated by the Islamic Centre of Southwest Ontario, incorporated 2005 as a not-for-profit and registered under Ontario's Cemeteries Act (licence #4701181). Operates as a lawn cemetery with no above-ground monuments. At 57 acres the Centre says it can meet the community's needs for generations; current plot availability is not published, so it is left unconfirmed. London Muslim Mosque names it as one of the two cemeteries it buries at.
Mosques that name it on their own funeral pages: Islamic Centre of Southwest Ontario (ICSWO) · London Muslim Mosque.
What a burial costs here
We have not priced a Muslim burial in London yet. We publish itemised, dated costs for 12 regions and London is not one of them — rather than borrow a neighbouring city’s figures and present them as local, we would rather say so. See the regions we have priced.
Islamic schools, for the guardianship clause
A will names a guardian for children under 18, and families often want that person to keep the children in Islamic education. We list 3 schools in London: Al-Taqwa Academy · London Islamic School. All London listings ›

London Muslim Mosque

The London Muslim Mosque is hailed as the first mosque in Ontario and the second mosque in Canada.' Elsewhere on the same page it lists 'Canada's oldest mosque in operation' among its distinguishing features. CRA's Charities Listing records LONDON MUSLIM MOSQUE, BN 863045654RR0001, London ON, as Registered with an effective date of status of 1968-01-01 — four years after the doors opened, and more than a decade after the community effort the mosque dates to the 1950s. The mosque runs its own licensed funeral transfer service (Bereavement Authority of Ontario licence TS-1501, TSO Class 2 - Restricted) and directs burials to the Islamic Cemetery of London at 6100 White Oak Road, which it notes is managed by the Islamic Centre of Southwest Ontario.
