In Islamic law

Purely procedural, with no bearing on how shares are calculated.

In Canadian law

Introduced in 2021 with a shorter form and no bond in most cases. Useful for modest estates, though some banks still ask for a full certificate regardless of eligibility.

We have not yet researched whether the four Sunni schools differ on this term, so we are not going to tell you either way. Where a specific case turns on it, ask a qualified scholar rather than relying on a general summary.
