In Islamic law
Predominant among Muslims of Turkish, Balkan, Central Asian and South Asian origin, which makes it the most commonly followed school among Canadian Muslims. In inheritance it admits dhawu al-arham as heirs and applies radd, and in the Mushtaraka case it excludes uterine brothers' full brothers from sharing.
In Canadian law
Relevant in Canada mainly because a large share of Muslim families here follow it — worth telling your lawyer which school you follow so the shares are drafted correctly.
We have not yet researched whether the four Sunni schools differ on this term, so we are not going to tell you either way. Where a specific case turns on it, ask a qualified scholar rather than relying on a general summary.
