Janazah & burial services

Niagara Region's first masjid, dating from the 1970s. With the St. Catharines Mosque (Masjid an-Noor) it runs the Islamic Cemetery of Niagara on Yokom Road, providing burial lots to any Muslim resident of the Niagara Region. Body washing facilities and wooden burial boxes with shrouds are available at the mosque. Transport is false because the published process states the cemetery has no hearse and a funeral home must move the body. The mosque is in Niagara Falls rather than one of the 16 assigned cities, but it is included because it is the janazah and burial provider for St. Catharines. Its main site was under construction on the research date, so no street number or general phone could be confirmed - CALL BEFORE RELYING ON THE ADDRESS.

Volunteers perform ghusl free of charge and ask immediate family to take part. Contact the mosque for current lot and service prices. Niagara Region also offers subsidised funeral services.

What we haven’t confirmed

We could not establish: On-site mortuary, Cold storage, Ghusl for women, by women, Janazah prayer, 24-hour janazah line. Those are published as gaps rather than filled with a plausible guess. If you know the answer — especially if you are from this organisation — tell us and we will verify and update the listing.

Planning ahead, rather than in a crisis?

The two things a funeral coordinator asks a family for are the burial wishes and the will. Recording where your will is kept and working out the inheritance shares now spares your family both questions at the worst possible moment.
