Calgary's main funeral/janazah venue, part of the Muslim Council of Calgary. MCC states funeral services are now provided at two locations - Akram Jomaa Islamic Centre and the SW Masjid (5615 14 Avenue SW) - and that MCC 'will help facilitate the entire process for the funeral arrangements'. The centre's own funeral page confirms a ghusl facility stocked with disposable gloves, aprons and face masks, general-rubbish bins and hazardous-waste bins, and states 'Our Akram Jomaa Facility has pre-cut and packed male AND FEMALE adult kaffans... We also have a roll of fabric available should you need to cut a specific size.' Same-gender washing is required ('if the deceased is male, then ONLY males should wash him'), and the page carries full female-specific ghusl and five-piece female kafan instructions for use in that facility - so ghusl for women, by women, is confirmed. Burial is at the Muslim Cemetery of Calgary (67 acres near Cochrane, MCC-owned, over 90% still unused). ⚠️ Two cautions for editors: (1) an on-site mortuary, refrigerated storage and transport of the deceased are NOT mentioned anywhere and remain unconfirmed - do not assume them from the size of the operation; (2) part of the funeral-prayer section of their page is boilerplate copied from a UK source and still reads 'Most of the Luton mosques follow the Hanafi madhab' - that sentence describes Luton, England, not Calgary, and should not be read as a statement about this centre. Address re-verified on the centre's own contact and home pages as 2624 39th Ave NE, T1Y 5V7; note that MCC's funeral page still shows an older address (2612 37 Avenue NE) for the same centre.

About Akram Jomaa Islamic Centre

The centre's about page records that 'A committee in 1986 was formed called the "East Calgary Masjid Committee"' and that the centre 'was established in 1992', operating 'under the Muslim Community Foundation of Calgary charitable organization'. It describes itself as 'the largest Islamic Centre in Western Canada', says it 'caters to over 25,000 Muslims in the Calgary Northeast vicinity', and states that 'Over 2,500 Muslim men and women attend the weekly Friday prayer'. CRA's Charities Listing records MUSLIM COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF CALGARY, BN 140621186RR0001, as Registered with an effective date of status of 1991-01-01 — a year before the centre itself opened, and five years after the founding committee was formed. The foundation's CRA mailing address (225 28 St SE) is not the mosque's own address, since the foundation operates more than one site.
