About Pioneer Mosque (St. Vital Mosque)
Pioneer Mosque opened its doors on September 25-26, 1976, as the first mosque in Winnipeg, built by the local Muslim community in the St. Vital neighbourhood at 247 Hazelwood Ave. For decades it was known informally as the "Hazelwood Mosque"; it was renamed Pioneer Mosque in 2016 to honour its founders on the 40th anniversary. It operates under the Manitoba Islamic Association, incorporated in 1969 and Manitoba's oldest and largest Muslim organization (CRA-registered charity effective November 1969).
