These are calculated times, not Masjid Vaughan’s jamaa‘ah times. They are worked out in your browser from this masjid’s own coordinates and today’s date, using the ISNA convention — the same arithmetic a printed timetable uses. What a masjid announces is something else: iqamah is set by the masjid, usually a chosen number of minutes after the prayer begins, and many hold it at a fixed clock time for weeks at a stretch. So the two will not match, and they are not meant to. For the times the congregation actually prays, check the masjid’s own site or phone (647) 243-5899.

Janazah & burial services

A community project of the Risalah Foundation (Canadian registered charity No. 809028954RR0001), opened April 15 2018 in a historic place of worship in Maple whose heritage goes back more than 140 years - described by the masjid as the first masjid in the City of Vaughan, serving Vaughan's Sunni Muslim community. Imam: Shaykh Ramzy Ajem. KAFAN CONFIRMED 2026-08-16 (this was previously described in the notes but never recorded as a field): the Janaza page's itemised list of what the service includes reads, in full - multi-institutional coordination and logistics; registration of the death and death certificates; coffin preparation and purchase; transportation for refrigeration; coordination with cemetery grounds and purchase of plot (if required); ritual washing (Ghusl); ritual shrouding (Kafan); ritual prayer; receiving family guests and/or non-Muslims at Masjid Vaughan; transportation to cemetery grounds; and ritual procedures at the burial site. WHAT IS STILL NOT CONFIRMED, AND WHY IT IS NOT MARKED FALSE: the list says 'transportation FOR refrigeration', which means the masjid arranges to move the deceased to refrigeration - it does not say refrigerated storage exists at the masjid, so cold_storage stays unconfirmed, and nothing on the page says the body can be received and kept at the masjid, so mortuary stays unconfirmed too (the only 'receiving' mentioned is of family guests and non-Muslim visitors). The page nowhere addresses whether women are washed by women, so womens_facilities is unconfirmed. No cemetery is named anywhere, so cemeteries_used stays empty even though the masjid coordinates cemetery grounds and plot purchase. Also runs the Muslim Family Academy (weekend, ages 5-19) and afterschool/full-time Hifz diploma programs.

Each line below is either confirmed from the organisation’s own material or marked as not confirmed. We publish the gaps rather than guess at them.

About Masjid Vaughan

Masjid Vaughan states that it 'was opened April 15, 2018 and is a community project of Risalah Foundation', in a heritage building a few hundred metres from Vaughan City Hall whose 'sacred history' extends 'over 140 years'. Its mid-century gothic interior was restored 'to reflect a North American Islamic aesthetic ... for its Sunni Muslim community', and the masjid calls itself 'this first masjid in our city of Vaughan'. CRA registered Risalah Foundation (809028954RR0001) effective 2018-01-01 at 9954 Keele St, Maple - the masjid's own address - three and a half months before the masjid opened. Its head imam is Shaykh Dr. Moaaz Safwat Salem, who holds a PhD in Qur'anic Recitations from Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah and is Dean of Dar al-Burhan Academy for Quran Studies; he delivers the Friday khutbah monthly and leads Eid and Taraweeh.

From the organisation’s own pages, checked 16 Aug 2026 — see the sources below.

Tradition — as the organisation describes itself

Sunni. The masjid's own About page says its restored heritage building was finished 'to reflect a North American Islamic aesthetic that gracefully evokes a sense of serenity and majesty for its Sunni Muslim community.' We publish how a community describes itself — never our own categorisation of it.

What we haven’t confirmed

We could not establish: On-site mortuary, Cold storage, Ghusl for women, by women, 24-hour janazah line. Those are published as gaps rather than filled with a plausible guess. If you know the answer — especially if you are from this organisation — tell us and we will verify and update the listing.

Planning ahead, rather than in a crisis?

The two things a funeral coordinator asks a family for are the burial wishes and the will. Recording where your will is kept and working out the inheritance shares now spares your family both questions at the worst possible moment.
