Jamia Islamia Canada states it 'was founded in 1992 and began by serving the community from a small rented property', moving to progressively larger premises and now operating from 'its current 36000 square foot property which has been purchased outright'. It was founded by Molana Muhammad Asif Qasmi, whom the masjid describes as 'the great grandson of Molana Qasim Nanotvi' and also the founder of Masjid Farooq e Azam in North Nazimabad, Karachi. JIC School, offering Kindergarten to Grade 8, was established in 2012. CRA registered JAMIA ISLAMIA CANADA LTD. (889166955RR0001) effective 1994-01-05 at 2380 Tedlo St, Mississauga - the masjid's own address, two years after its founding.
