CHECKED AGAIN 2026-08-16: the centre's own About Us page lists its activities as five daily prayers, Jumu'ah khutbah and prayer, two Eid prayers yearly, marriage counselling, marriage services (civil and Shari'a), mewluds commemorating Islamic events, educational programs for various ages, 'and others'. About Bosnian Islamic Centre (Bosanski Islamski Centar)

The centre calls itself 'The oldest Bosnian mosque in Canada, initially named the Croatian Mosque ... one of the oldest mosques in Toronto, and certainly the oldest mosque with a minaret.' Its own account: 'The original founders and organizers of the mosque were Bosniaks (Bosnian Muslims) who chose to identify as Croatian. They purchased the land and church in 1973 at the same address. Approximately ten years later the old building was demolished and a completely new mosque was built, and in 1985 the first minaret in Ontario was erected beside the mosque. The construction was supported by many Balkan Muslims, Croatian associations and churches, as well as the World Islamic League at the UN and the Embassy of Saudi Arabia from Ottawa.' Imams from Arab countries led the congregation until 1989, when Nedzad ef. Hafizovic was hired and 'continues to serve the mosque today'; the mosque was renamed Bosnian Islamic Centre at its 1995 annual assembly. CRA registered BOSNIAN ISLAMIC CENTRE (893211664RR0001) effective 1979-11-01 at 75 Birmingham St - the mosque's own address - six years after the property was bought.
