How do I transfer a car after someone dies?

The Canadian position

Some provinces allow transfer to a surviving spouse with minimal formality; others require the grant.

Outstanding loans on the vehicle remain a debt of the estate.

The Islamic position

A vehicle is part of the tarikah and its value forms part of the pool the shares apply to.

Where one heir wants the car, valuing it and offsetting against their share is the cleanest route.
